Payments Technical Product Owner

Garanti BBVA International (GBI) is seeking an experienced Payments Technical Product Owner in its Technology organization to support its Retail Banking Modernization Program. The role will own the functional and technical definition of payment capabilities for natural persons and SMEs, covering SEPA Credit Transfers, SEPA Instant Payments, Direct Debits, WERO/iDEAL, Apple Pay, Google Pay and PSD2/Open Banking services.
The successful candidate will translate customer, business, operational and regulatory needs into a clear product roadmap and prioritized backlog, define end-to-end payment journeys and requirements, and work closely with business, technology, operations, compliance, risk and implementation partners to ensure successful delivery and launch.

Your role:
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Product Ownership and Roadmap Management: Deliver the payments product vision, roadmap and prioritized backlog, balancing customer value, regulatory obligations, operational needs, dependencies and programme milestones. Translate business and regulatory requirements into epics, features, user stories and acceptance criteria and accept delivered functionality on behalf of the business.Payment Journeys and SEPA Payments: Define end-to-end customer and operational journeys for SEPA Credit Transfers, SEPA Instant Payments and Direct Debits, including initiation, authorization, execution, payment statuses, limits, beneficiary management, notifications, returns, recalls, cancellations, reversals and exception scenarios. Ensure alignment with applicable European payment schemes and market practices.
WERO/iDEAL and Open Banking: Deliver the business requirements and customer journeys for WERO/iDEAL and PSD2/Open Banking capabilities, including payment initiation, account information services, third-party provider access, Strong Customer Authentication, consent-related journeys and customer communications.
Apple Pay & Google Pay: Deliver product requirements and customer journeys for Apple Pay and Google Pay, including wallet enrolment, card provisioning, eligibility, tokenization, authentication and card/token lifecycle management. Coordinate requirements across mobile banking, card processing, payment providers, fraud/security platforms and operational teams and support certification and launch readiness.
Cross-Workstream and Vendor Coordination: Coordinate end-to-end requirements across Mobile and Digital Channels, Orchestration & Integration, Core Banking, Fraud/AML/Sanctions, Data & Reporting, Security and Operations. Work with payment providers, card processors, implementation partners, Garanti BBVA Technology and other third parties to ensure aligned and timely delivery.
Fraud, Sanctions and Payment Controls: Define payment-related business requirements for fraud prevention, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, authentication, payment limits and digital wallet security controls in collaboration with Compliance, Risk, Fraud, AML and Security teams.
Payment Operations, Reconciliation and Exceptions: Work with Payment Operations to define processes for failed or rejected payments, investigations, returns, recalls, cancellations, reversals, reconciliation breaks and customer inquiries. Ensure payment statuses and financial movements are traceable across channels, payment providers and core banking systems.
Testing and Business Acceptance: Own business acceptance criteria and coordinate business participation in end-to-end payment testing, covering positive, negative, exception, reconciliation, fraud, sanctions and digital wallet scenarios. Support defect prioritization and ensure critical journeys are validated before production release.
Go-Live and Operational Readiness: Support release planning, cutover, operational readiness and hypercare. Confirm business readiness for launch and ensure material risks, exceptions, workarounds and operational procedures are understood and addressed.
Governance and Regulatory Compliance: Ensure payment requirements and product decisions remain aligned with applicable regulations and scheme requirements, including PSD2/PSD3/PSR, Strong Customer Authentication, SEPA and Instant Payments requirements, DORA, AML/sanctions obligations, card scheme rules and digital wallet security requirements.

Skills/Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of SEPA Credit Transfer, SEPA Instant Payments and SEPA Direct Debits, including payment lifecycle, exceptions, returns, recalls and reconciliation.
Experience with PSD2/Open Banking, Strong Customer Authentication and payment-related customer journeys.
Experience with European payment solutions; knowledge of WERO/iDEAL and the Dutch payments market is highly preferred.
Experience with Apple Pay, Google Pay or comparable digital wallet implementations, including card provisioning, tokenization and wallet lifecycle management, is strongly preferred.
Strong understanding of end-to-end payment processing across digital channels, payment platforms, core banking, fraud/sanctions controls and payment operations.
Experience translating complex business and regulatory requirements into epics, features, user stories and acceptance criteria, and managing a prioritized product backlog.
Experience defining business acceptance and testing for complex payment solutions, including negative and exception scenarios.
Understanding of API-based integration, modern cloud-native banking platforms, card processing and payment tokenization is preferred.
Experience with Agile/Scrum, Jira, Confluence, backlog refinement, sprint and release planning; SAFe experience is preferred.
Strong stakeholder and vendor management skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively across Business, Operations, Compliance, Risk and Technology.
Experience in the Dutch or wider European banking and payments environment is highly preferred.
8+ years of experience in in a Technology organization working in the areas of Payments, Transaction Banking, Retail Banking, Digital Banking or Payments Transformation, with significant experience in Technical Product Management or senior Business Analysis roles.
Education:
Bachelor's degree or master's degree in law, Finance, Business Administration
