The Payments and Screening Systems Technical Application Manager plays a crucial role in supporting the company’s payment and screening systems (Transaction and Customer) offerings, ensuring seamless execution of end-to-end payment processes and timely compliance with regulatory requirements. This position requires a deep understanding of the payments value chain, related information architectures, and ICT solutions.
Your role:
Key Responsibilities:
Payment Operations & Expertise:
- Manage application lifecycle
- Establish/Optimize end-to-end payment operations, including Instant Payments, SEPA, TARGET2, SWIFT, and ISO 20022 processes.
- Ensure operational excellence: Timely cut-offs, error resolution, reconciliation, and cloud-based services (e.g., SWIFT Service Bureaus).
- Manage sanctions screening to meet AML and regulatory standards, with a proactive approach to evolving risk and sanctions lists.Develop and optimize end-to-end payment processes including Instant Payments, SEPA Payments, TARGET2, SWIFT, ISO20022.
Business and Product Development:
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of payment products and services tailored to customer needs.
- Collaborate with product teams to design innovative payment solutions and support go-to-market strategies.
Information Architecture & ICT Solutions:
- Databases & Data Layers: Fair understanding of relational databases (mostly MSSQL)
- Scripting & Automation: Use scripting languages like Python, Java or shell scripting for automation, system integrations, and orchestration.
- Load Balancing & High Availability: Fair understanding of load balancing solutions (e.g., HAProxy, NGINX, F5)
- Fair understanding of message queuing and file transfer solutions (MQ, SFTP, etc.)
- OS: Linux/Windows administration experience
- Security & Certificate Management: Oversee TLS/SSL certificate lifecycles—including issuance, renewal, trust management—and integrate with public key infrastructure (PKI).
- Network: Will be able to understand and comprehend the network landscape and firewalling infrastructure
Compliance and Risk Management:
- Stay abreast of and enforce evolving regulatory frameworks—PSD2, AML/CFT, sanctions screening, PCI DSS, etc.
- Drive best practices in payment screening, leveraging automation, AI/ML, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Ensure auditability—maintain comprehensive logging, documentation, and reporting to satisfy compliance and regulatory audits.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Development:
- Act as a bridge between technical, compliance, and business teams, ensuring that architectural and regulatory considerations align with business needs.
- Able to understand and contribute to architectural decisions

Skills/Qualifications:
Technical Expertise:
- Experience in managing payment systems—including SWIFT, Instant Payments, SEPA, ISO 20022.
- Familiarity with screening systems (anti-fraud, sanctions): understanding AML/CFT frameworks, sanctions list updates, ISO standards, and risk-based screening approaches
- Technical background in:
- Databases (SQL)
- Scripting (Python, Java, Shell)
- Load balancing & high availability architecture
- TLS/SSL certificate and security infrastructure
- IAM (OIDC, oauth2, ldap, etc.)
- Nice to have:
- Java and Python programming experience.
• Familiarity with low-code development platforms.

Regulatory Knowledge
- Familiarity with relevant European payment regulations, including but not limited to PSD2 and AML directives.
- Understanding of risk and compliance frameworks in financial services.
Change Management
- Ability to proactively support and implement efficient change management by correctly assessing the business outcome versus change impact in respect with applications related changes and incidents
Leadership and Communication:
- Proven ability to influence and guide organizational decision-making
- Strong presentation and stakeholder management skills
- Excellent communication skills with ability to liaise across technical, business, and compliance stakeholders
Other
- General knowledge of banking applications in different business areas (core banking, document management, payments systems, corporate / retail systems, compliance, treasury, finance etc.)
- Vendor management
- Knowledge of software developments methods and Agile methodologies like Scrum
- Knowledge of Atlassian stack tools Jira and Confluence
- Strong communication skills and an international outlook
- Deals effectively with pressure, remains calm, objective and in control in stressful situations
- Ability to work under pressure
Education:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Business, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in payments, banking, or financial technology preferably in financial sector or banks more specifically
- Relevant certifications are a plus
